A dragonfly on a mission?

This Royal Tigertail, Parasynthemis regina, is the first to be recorded on the Co-op.

While they have been seen at several dams around the Bend of Islands, this one was spotted on a dry ridge on the Co-op. Maybe it was on a reconnaissance mission, looking for water?

The Swamp Tigertail, Synthemis eustalacta, above, is very similar and has also been found on the Co-op. The Royal has a larger pale patch near the end of the abdomen.

To date, 24 species of dragonfly have been found on the Co-op, and 34 in the surrounding Bend of Islands. You can see more of these beautiful delicate creatures on our Dragonfly page.
